Kalua Pig in a Slow Cooker
Slow cooker recipes are always nice once in
awhile for a tasty meal without lots of prep
time (giving you some extra paddling time). This
dish offers a taste of Hawaii. Some who've
tasted it say it's very close to what you'll
taste at an authentic luau. I found it on one of
my favorite recipe sites ... AllRecipes.com.
Prep time: 10 Minutes
Cook time: 20 Hours
Makes: About 12 Servings
Ingredients:
1 (6 pound) Pork
Butt Roast
1 1/2 tablespoons Hawaiian Sea Salt (see note below)
1 tablespoon Liquid Smoke flavoring
Directions:
* Pierce pork all over with a carving fork.
* Rub salt then liquid smoke over meat.
* Place roast in a slow cooker.
* Cover, and cook on Low for 16 to 20 hours,
turning once during cooking time.
* Remove meat from slow cooker, and shred,
adding drippings as needed to moisten.
NOTE: Using regular table salt or coarse
salt can make this dish too salty for some
tastes. try it if you like, however a more mild,
and traditional, ingredient is 'Hawaiian Clay
Sea Salt'. You should be able to find it at a
gourmet food store or a whole foods market. |
